THE ROLE OF TEACHING ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION IN BUILDING COMMUNICATIVE AND RHETORICAL COMPETENCE OF A MODERN PROFESSIONAL
Master class: “How to Sound English: Building on an English Accent”
It is natural to have an accent. Both native and non-native speakers commonly speak with an accent inherent to their linguistic identity. However, some non-native accent features can hamper comprehension and even distort the meaning of their speech in English. The master class will focus on the key English accent features to be built on a Russian accent to further prevent the most common intelligibility flaws in Russian English speech, and demonstrate how to teach them at one class.

Professional Development – an obligation, necessity or willingness?
‘Training is what other people do to you. Development is what you do to yourself.’
(Julian Edge)
The academic year is coming to an end and it’s time to reflect on what has been achieved and how we can develop professionally within the next year. In this session we’ll do some practical tasks we can complete on our own, with our students and colleagues to develop our teaching skills, knowledge, awareness and attitude. We’ll look at some resources to develop our instrument, the English language, and talk about a variety of teacher training programmes on the TEFL market. This is going to be a practical workshop for experienced teachers and those who are starting their career.
